UKRAINIANS READY TO PROVE THEIR CLASS

After the biggest success in Ukrainian beach handball history, silver medal at the World Championship in Oman in July 2012, the national team of Ukraine are hoping to go one step further on the continental front.

50-year-old head coach of the Ukrainian men’s national team, Oleg Sych, has nominated 12 players for preparation to the European Beach Handball Championship in Randers, Denmark (9-14 July).

Oleg Sych worked for three years in the backroom staff of Igor Turchin’s legendary team Spartak Kiev and the USSR during their golden era in the mid-eighties (1982-1984).

The head coach of indoor handball team HC Portovik, recent bronze medalists in the domestic championship, has been working with the beach team since 2004.

“Our preparation started at the Ukrainian Beach Handball Championship (26-30 June) with participation of nine teams in the city of Yuzhny near the Black Sea,” said Oleg Sych.

“My team, HC Portovik, based on players of the national team, finished only fifth. First of all, because of some experiments with the squad and the players not yet fully fit.

“After the World Championship in Oman I cannot count on Oleg Kumogorodsky and Eduard Zakharov. However, another eight players from that team, including the MVP and second top scorer of tournament Viktor Ladyko and Alexandr Poltoratskyi are still in the list for the European Championship”

“On 2 July we gather for the second phase of preparations in Yuzhny and after three or four days I’ll nominate the ten players squad”

“Firstly, we try to advance from our group and then we will be seeking the podium. With all respect to all our rivals, the main favourites of our preliminary campaign are Croatia and Hungary,” admits Sych.

Ukrainian captain Yuriy Mankovsky is firmly convinced that every team can make a surprise.

“Beach handball is so specific. Goalkeepers play a huge role and we must always remember fortune and I won’t be surprised any result of tournament. For example, there are no underdogs in our group.

“After our bright performance in Oman, we understand that opponents will be specially adjusted for matches against us.

“We have a tremendous atmosphere in the team, this is our advantage too; the only issue will be the almost 3,000 km distance from Ukraine to Denmark by bus.

“Despite it, we still believe that our prior aim, to qualify for the World Championships 2014 in Morocco, is very possible,” said the32-year-old Mankovsky.

In Group A of the European Beach Handball Championship Ukraine will face Turkey, Serbia (9 July), Hungary, Sweden (10 July) and Croatia (11 July) in the battle for a top-4 place and a place in the next round.

Ukrainian provisional squad for the 2013 European Beach Handball Championship:

Igor Chupryna, Vladymyr Rakitin; Alexandr Poltoratskyi, Dmytriy Gunko, Zakhar Denysov, Yuriy Mankovsky, Artem Kozakevych, Evgeniy Buinenko, Leonid Mikhaylytenko, (all – HC Portovik), Viktor Shkrobanets (TUR), Viacheslav Sadovyi (HC winland, SLK) and Viktor Ladyko (Besiktas JK, TUR).

Noruega se Prepara para Campeonato Europeu

Matéria da EHF sobre a preparação da equipe da Noruega feminina.

A successful preparation for Norway’s female Beach Handball team has made national coach Eskil Berg Andreassen rather optimistic ahead of the European Championship in Denmark later this month.

“We will definitely aim for a top four position,” he told eurohandball.com.

The Norwegian team spent the past weekend in Hungary, taking part in an international tournament which they ended up winning after having defeated the Hungarian hosts among others.

Hungary and Norway actually met twice in the tournament, with a 2:0 win for Hungary in one game and 2:1 for Norway in the other.

“Hungary have a very strong team and are probably among the favourites to become European champions, so this was a really fine test for our team,” said Andreassen.

Norway still have one last test before the championship, as they are playing a tournament in Denmark this coming weekend, but Andresen has already nominated his team for the championship after the tournament in Hungary.

“We have several new players in the squad, but still I think we have managed to put a really strong squad together,” he emphasised.

When eurohandball.com spoke to Eskil Berg Andresen back in February, he admitted that repeating the success of the last championships at home, when they reached the semi-final, will be a difficult task and that is still his attitude.

“We are obviously in the toughest group, with Croatia and Hungary as some of the favourites to take the title, but still our goal is to at least finish among the four best teams in the competition and thereby qualify for the next World Championship and we should definitely fight for a medal too,” Eskil Berg Andreassen said.

Norwegian squad for the 2013 European Beach Handball Championship in Randers, Denmark:

Rannveig Haugen (Oppsal IF) Martine Hovden (Frederiksdal Bkl) Arnhold Holmlimo (Oppsal IF) Kamilla Ersek (Oppsal IF) Cathrine Korvald (Skrim IL) Tonje Klevstad (Skrim IL) Isalin Ryvoll Klev (Glassverket IF) Elisabeth Hammerstad (Hønefoss SPKL) Hege Bolstad (Esportiu Castelldefels) Kjersti Beck (Gjøvik HK)

Polônia se Prepara para Campeonato Europeu

Publicada na página da EHF matéria sobre a preparação da equipe polonesa de Beach Handball. Leiam e vejam a seriedade com que o técnico polonês encara a competição.

POLAND DREAM ABOUT A MEDAL

Beach handball is still a relatively new sport discipline in Poland, but each year more tournaments are played and participation is growing.

“I think that Polish beach handball has made huge progress during the last few years. Our main goals during the European Beach Handball Championship in Randers are advance to next round and fight for the best result in the next phase.

“If we look for Polish club's achievement in European Beach Tour, we will think positive”

“We dream about a medal. The tournament isn't only a holiday for us. We want to gain more than in previous tournaments and qualify for the World Championship. It is within our reach,” said Arkadiusz Fajok, coach of Poland´s men's beach handball team.

“My team is a blend of young and older players. They are a very strong group. We were preparing to the tournament in Denmark during short camps in Sierpc, Inowrocław and Random, where we are working on tactics and fitting together.”

Tough competition

Poland's men will face medallists from the 2011 championship, Russia and Spain as well as Switzerland, Norway, Italy and the hosts in Group B when the tournament throws off on 14 July.

“We face very strong and tough teams in our group. We know that this tournament won't be easy for us, but it is a European championship so there aren't week teams.

“We have played with each team during previously tournaments. In my opinion the favourite teams are Spain and Russia to win the group.

“In addition, Denmark could be very dangerous, because they play in front of their spectators, it should be an advantage for them. Norway is always well prepared to tournaments, but I suppose that Switzerland could be the dark horse in Randers, anything can happen,” Concluded Fajok.
